Smoke of Chile
Smoke over Chile, Dust off of Africa
While scanning yesterday's global aerosol index image, I noticed a fairly intense signal off the coast of Chile. It turns out that, over the weekend, a number of fires in that country (101 to be exact) burned over 35000 acres (just over 14000 hectares) and destroyed 15 homes. The aerosol index is picking up a large smoke plume moving out into the Pacific from one of the largest fires just north of the City of Cauquenes:
