The Suomi NPP satellite is part of NOAA's Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS). The above composite images of Earth were created using data from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer (VIIRS) on the NOAA/NASA Suomi NPP (National Polar-orbiting Partnership) satellite. This image is just one of the many different kinds of observations provided by the instruments on Suomi NPP. Suomi NPP provides essential weather observation data to NOAA's National Weather Service and contributes to NASA's study of Earth's climate.
